Day 10: Forecastle and (no) flying fish

    Sunday, 1st July 2012, 8:33 PM

The only thing that stood out to me when I woke up this morning
(unlike other days) was that it was incredibly quiet. At first, I thought we might have stopped on the open sea. But obviously the suspicious silence was only because I had turned off the air conditioning last night…
Well, that’s how you can get your thoughts going early in the morning 😉

    Day 7: Crêpes on board

    Thursday, 28th June 2012, 08:07 AM

I woke up with a headache and in a bad mood again.
The boys at the breakfast table are still only talking to each other and in French. Today, everyone is getting on my nerves.
Luckily, I haven’t seen Jean yet, he would definitely have noticed something… The pool should be filled by noon and we’re having crêpes for lunch. Still, I’m in a bad mood. Why did I have to get on a French ship of all places?

    Day 5: Ship explorations

    Tuesday, 26th June 2012, 09:05 AM

    Cabin fever

Today I already woke up in a bad mood, but that’s the first time since I’ve been on the ship.
At least I have good reasons for being in a bad mood: a week of
fatty, sweet food, no exercise, no tasks, and no one to talk to beyond small talk.
Besides that: hardly any fresh air (because the weather wasn’t so great), always the same surroundings, and no (mental) input.

    Day 4: Normal day aboard

    Monday, 25th June 2012 9:55 AM

Waking up, looking at the clock: 6:00 a.m. and I feel fine: no headache, no weird feeling in my stomach, for the first time ever on board I feel fit and well-rested in the morning…yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah….

Day 3: Saint Nazaire, Safety Instructions, meeting the crew

    Sunday, 24th June 2012 (9:17 AM)

Now we’re really on our way.
There won’t be any land for the next 5-6 (or 7??) days, but honestly, I’m not worried at all.
Later we’ll have safety instructions, and I’m sure there will always be something else going on 😉
Sorry if today’s entry is pretty boring, but I feel like I only slept 3-4 hours.
I’m really looking forward to seeing the ocean!

Day 2: 1st full day aboard

    Saturady, 23rd June 2012 9:50 AM:

Alright, the first night is over and after initially battling hunger,
cold, headache, and general discomfort (basically everything except seasickness), I ended up sleeping reasonably well.
I woke up pretty sweaty and extremely hungry. Since I’ve been
on board, I’ve been hungry all the time, even more so than at home.

I was also an hour late, as it turned out, because my cell phone, which I used as an alarm clock, apparently was already in the next time zone.

Day 1: Boarding in Le Havre, first impressions on board

Friday, 22 of June 2012, 10:28 AM (Le Havre)

Once again, I feel like an idiot and wonder whether this feeling will ever go away this year and how I ever got the idea to go on a ship sailing under the French flag of all things???
