Day 27: bye, bye Fort St.Louis and trip home

    Wednesday, 18th July 2012

I woke up around 5 a.m., when we had already docked, and couldn’t get back to sleep. At 6 a.m., I got up, showered, and packed everything up. Of course, there was no sign of the others at breakfast. I grabbed a piece of baguette as a snack for the journey and was down at the dock at 7:30 a.m. sharp, where unfortunately there was no taxi waiting.

    Day 26: Last day onboard

    Tuesday, 17th July 2012

As always on board, I slept soundly until around 7 a.m., even though I was a little groggy. I had dreamed about a confusing Unicorns game with strange rules that went on forever. Additionally, I had to unclogg the toilets there. In the middle of my work, I went outside again to find that the game was finally over and the Unicorns had won 7-6.
Understandably, I was a little tired after that.

Day 25: Spectacular docking maneuver in Dunkirk

    Monday, 16th July 2012

I feel strange today. I don’t know if that’s already the pretaste of saying goodbye soon or the fact that I seem to have only just realized why work life here is so hard.
Until now, I always thought this was my dream life, but somehow that dream burst yesterday. At least, that’s how it feels today.

    Day 20: Dolphins, finally!!

    Wednesday, 11th July 2012

After eight hours of sleep, I woke up in a great mood and full of energy. After breakfast, I went cycling for an hour. Then I took a shower and did some reading by the pool while Hamadou scrubbed my cabin.
After that, I took a trip to the forecastle. The water is even smoother than usual, and there is trash floating by that you don’t normally see between the waves.
On the other hand, there are hardly any flying fish to be seen.

Day 17: BBQ #2 – Roasting of a suckling pig!!!

    Sunday, 8th July 2012

I let the day start slowly with a bit of journaling/blogging and a few Sudoku puzzles. After that, I went to the Salle des sports, which, to be honest, took a bit of effort because my energy level is currently almost non-existent, but once I sat on the bike for a while, it was fine. Although I never would have thought that I could really last 45 minutes.
After that, my room was cleaned and I was able to sit by the freshly cleaned pool for a bit before lunch.

Day 16: 1st day onboard again- unspectacular

    Saturday, 7th July 2012

I woke up briefly at around 4:30 a.m. when we docked in Pointe-à-Pitre, but then went straight back to sleep. At breakfast, I chatted with the other passengers, but they were only going to Guadeloupe for the weekend and would be returning on Wednesday on the next ship.

Day 15: Distillery La Favorite, beach in Schoelcher

    Friday, 6th July 2012

I woke up in a pretty bad mood. An aftermath of the quite uncomfortable evening before, probably the worst evening since I started this trip. I’ll just mention the key words “restaurant”, “sitting and waiting for dinner for hours and hours” and “no one to talk to”.

But I was also looking forward to our last day in Martinique a little bit because I hoped to see a little more of the island, the beach, and the waterfalls.

  • Day 14: Fort-de-France, (Martinique)

    Day 14: Fort-de-France, (Martinique)

    Thursday, 5th July 2012, 5:05 p.m.

When I got up, I was still reasonably motivated to actually go to the island that Pasquale and Gaél had raved about to me,
but first I met Gaél for the first time before breakfast
and he was completely exhausted (apparently, he had hardly
    slept).
And then I realized that Christoph’s girlfriend was now sitting at “my” table with the cadets, and I was sitting there like a fifth wheel.

Maybe I’ll move to the crew mess completely in the future.
At least Pasquale and Gaél translate sometimes there,
or I can talk to Jerôme.
In any case, it’s much more pleasant there than with the cadets and officers (where you’re also always being watched closely by the captain or the chief).

Anyway, after breakfast, where no one (except Jean) talked to me
because they were too busy planning the day, I was completely demotivated and suddenly felt a hangover coming on.
