The only thing that stood out to me when I woke up this morning
(unlike other days) was that it was incredibly quiet. At first, I thought we might have stopped on the open sea. But obviously the suspicious silence was only because I had turned off the air conditioning last night…
Well, that’s how you can get your thoughts going early in the morning 😉
When I came to breakfast, the cadets had just finished, but that was fine with me, because in the morning I like to be alone and am glad when I don’t have to talk
After breakfast, I made my way back to the forecastle because I finally wanted to see flying fish (apparently, they don’t like to fly at night when there’s a full moon, at least we didn’t see any then).
And sure enough, as soon as I sat down on the bench for a few minutes, they came flying by. Mostly only for 1-2 meters, but some fish actually fly 10-15 meters before they splash into the water – amazing stuff. I was kind of hoping to see at least a whale or some dolphins, but no such luck… I’ll keep my fingers crossed for tomorrow 🙂

I spent the rest of the morning by the pool and I think I burned my legs quite badly, we’ll see how it turns out tomorrow.
After lunch, I wanted to go back to the pool until I remembered that Gaél actually wanted to show me his workplace, so I went down to the crew smoking room and there he was, but completely exhausted.
Apparently, he had been awake since 5 a.m. today, woke up with
a headache, and couldn’t get back to sleep.
We chatted a bit while watching Cranberries and Dido music videos, and then we watched the movie „The Boat That Rocked“ (=“Radio Rock Revolution“) about an English pirate radio station in the 1970s. The movie was in French, but luckily Gaél always summarized and translated the essentials so that I could understand the most important parts.
I still really want to watch the original soon, especially because two of the main characters from “The IT Crowd” are in it – really cool 🙂
Then it was already 4:30 p.m., and at 5:00 p.m., everyone had to work for another hour. So I made my third trip to the front deck within 24 hours, took a few more videos, in which, as far as I could see, unfortunately, nothing but water and waves can be seen (no
flying fish on film :-(( ), then I looked at the photos from yesterday on my laptop – Gaél took some very nice pictures of the snack bowls, wine bottles, and beer cans, but also shot a wonderful short film which unfortunately cannot be posted here due to data protection reasons – and then it was already dinner time.
By that time, I was already really tired. I guess I got a little too much sun this morning. That’s why Pierre-Antoine’s offer to wake me up tomorrow at sunrise (everyone except me has to be up at 5 a.m. tomorrow to maneuver) because the sunrise on the islands is supposed to be sooooooooooooo beautiful didn’t sound very tempting, but I agreed anyway….argh…
Apart from that, the cadets are super excited and really looking forward to getting back on land, while I’m a little nervous, mainly
because I want to call home again. But, if I’m completely honest, I have to admit that I could actually do without land quite well. I don’t miss it or all the other people at all – maybe I’m already half a sea-woman???? 😉
