Cabin fever
Today I already woke up in a bad mood, but that’s the first time since I’ve been on the ship.
At least I have good reasons for being in a bad mood: a week of
fatty, sweet food, no exercise, no tasks, and no one to talk to beyond small talk.
Besides that: hardly any fresh air (because the weather wasn’t so great), always the same surroundings, and no (mental) input.

Waking up, looking at the clock: 6:00 a.m. and I feel fine: no headache, no weird feeling in my stomach, for the first time ever on board I feel fit and well-rested in the morning…yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah….

Saturady, 23rd June 2012 9:50 AM:
Alright, the first night is over and after initially battling hunger,
cold, headache, and general discomfort (basically everything except seasickness), I ended up sleeping reasonably well.
I woke up pretty sweaty and extremely hungry. Since I’ve been
on board, I’ve been hungry all the time, even more so than at home.
I was also an hour late, as it turned out, because my cell phone, which I used as an alarm clock, apparently was already in the next time zone.

Friday, 22 of June 2012, 10:28 AM (Le Havre)
Once again, I feel like an idiot and wonder whether this feeling will ever go away this year and how I ever got the idea to go on a ship sailing under the French flag of all things???
(more…)I’m sure you’re curious how my day yesterday ended …well, in short: I didn’t do anything from my list 😉
I went up to the village center in order to go to the new arrivals meeting. I was a bit early and strolled through the big antiques market which was here for the weekend. I heard some French, a lot of Swiss German and saw soooooooooooooooooooo many things (about 80% of the stuff they were selling) which only serve to fill up a house or a flat. And I decided, I’m not going to buy anything at all to just clutter up my flat, more likely the opposite and that it’s very likely that I’m gone before I’m concerned by any of the things they are going to tell at the meeting. So, I just skipped it….BUT… at least I did my grocery shopping while I was already at the mall…yay :-))
Back at home I started to read two books… I started with “If nobody talks about remarkable things” by John McGregor…wooooooooooow…you really have to get used to his style but the book is super exciting and has a suprising end… after 2-3 hours I had to change to something lighter and found “Wishcraft” by Barbara Sher which I had downloaded from her website in the morning. Yeeah…I know, it’s one of these “selfhelp” books…but they usually work fine until I’m back on my normal enthusiastic level ;-))
And it had its motivating effect on me as well (that’s probably why she already sold a few thousand …or million??…copies) and so while most of my neighbours spend their evening beside the BBQ, I did a 7.5km (roughly 4.6 miles) run and finished the evening off with “The mechanic”… So after all not a too bad day…. :-))
When I woke up, I was already in a bad mood (a good sign that I’m nervous)… the plan for today was:
– 8:30 AM: cycle to the animal shelter and take a look around, take a dog for a walk or just see where it is
– 2:00 PM: go to the meeting for new arrivals in our village
– 6:00 PM: go to the Grizzli’s match vs. Biel (American Football)
