Despite the very nice room and a delicious breakfast, my bad mood was back (maybe I was sensing the bad weather already). I also had to do some shopping and it took some contemplating on which side of the Mosel I wanted to continue, so I started relatively late.
Sunday morning was the exact opposite from the day before: despite the noise inside and outside the hotel, I woke up refreshed and in a super relaxed mood.
After breakfast, I packed up my things and wanted to get on the road. But just before I got going, it started to rain – and not only a little. So I put on my rain gear before I cycled to the Deutsche Eck, the point in Koblenz where the Mosel runs into the Rhine river and where the Mosel cycling path starts.

Yesterday was one of the worst days since I started cycling. I thought already in the morning about taking the train to my parents and take a loooooooooooooong break from cycling. There was no specific reason, just a bad day. I thought I would quickly cycle to Koblenz and decide then what I would do.
Today I started my trip with the two new items I bought in Cologne the day before yesterday: my new rain jacket and my new drinking bottle. And also a new tire which I didn’t photograph 😉
Today was another highlight of my tour: Finally some cycling in the Ville forest where I (almost) started my cycling “career”.
(more…)The ride from Neuss to Bruehl was one of the nicest during my trip so far: the weather was cloudy but almost dry, the cycling paths are in excellent condition and the guiding system here is directly from heaven 🙂 also, the flourishing nature all around me made this a real holiday.
(more…)Although I love Essen and everything seemed to go so well, again I got lost shortly after I found the first promising sign pointing to my first destination “Werden”. I even circled back to the sign and tried again but not a chance to find the follow-up sign. So I decided to cycle to Werden according to my phone, again missing one of those “wonderful” cycle routes.
Although it was pretty warm, I slept well and was awake around 6 AM or even earlier. I got up a little later and was on the road around 8 AM which was a good start, keeping the temperatures of yesterday in mind.
But again, as usual in big cities, it took a while before I found the route I wanted to follow today: the Emscher Weg.

The day’s events started again with a cat, this one was named Max.
I was sitting outside on the door mat and putting my shoes on, leaving the door ajar because I wasn’t a 100% certain that I had already brought all my stuff outside to put it on my bike.
And then Max the cat came along. He and his friend Zora are not supposed to be in the house while nobody is at home, so I closed the door a bit, thought for a bit and when Max started to step inside, I closed the door shut. I went to the garage and even before I opened the door, I realized that my drinking bottles were still inside the house….damn….

Once again, I started in beautiful sunshine. I cycled from Freckenhorst to Warendorf on the 100 Schloesser (=castles)-Route which is about 8k long but sooooooooooo much nicer than cycling along the busy main road.
