Let’s get started 🙂

My first official segment of my journey through Germany, leading from Kluetz in Mecklenburg Wester-Pomerania, after a short detour via the beach of Boltenhagen to Moelln in Schleswig-Holstein.

For starters: A short detour to Boltenhagen

Boltenhagen

I started in brilliant sunshine and the first real spring day of this year but because of the strong headwind I already stopped at the farmers market in Hohen Schoenberg just 5k out of Kluetz. Good thing is that I could buy stuff for lunch (some healthy wholegrain buns and a cinnamon bun for dessert).
After that stop, the wind died down a bit and I enjoyed the fantastic ride in a warm breeze towards Dassow. In the middle of the fields there were cranes which are still very special to me. Unfortunately, they were too far away to get a nice picture.

One of the cranes

After sailing through Dassow with its superb cobblestones (as long as you are not a cyclist), I headed towards Schoenberg. The route is off the street but was still quite muddy and b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l.

Just a tiny bit muddy 😉

Lunch time

A few kilometers outside of Schoenberg I took a break for lunch. An older gentleman came along on his folding ebike and stroke up a conversation. He had cycled from Luebeck to Lake Constance in 2001. The conversation started out quite interesting but when he didn’t stop talking and the dialogue became one-sided, my patience sank quite rapidly.

My first lunch break

Unfortunately, after he had finally left, he waited for me some meters ahead because he “had” to guide me through a particularly muddy part of the road and accompanied me until Schoenberg where he went to buy his lottery ticket and I was once again on my own….yippieh! 😉

Nice landscape

From Schoenberg on, the independent cycling path ended and I had to ride along a busy road which was not a lot of fun – and also the wind picked up again.

And ther’s already the first federal state border 🙂

Only a few kilometers before Ratzeburg, I could leave the street and could cycle on a separate cycling path again.

Nice surprise shortly before the end of today’s ride

Wonderful single track “right outside” Moelln 🙂

And “just before” (officially about 6k) I arrived at Moelln another beautiful part of the route started, hilly cycling tracks through fields and forest. Just like I like them….especially when I’m not tired yet, in good weather and without luggage 😉
But it was rewarding after all.
Even after it started to drizzle and the 6k, especially the final 2-3 kilometers just didn’t come to an end.

I made it to my first stop: Moelln

To get to my guesthouse, I didn’t even have to cycle into town but only a bit around it – AAAAAAAAAND a steep hill up. But then, a bit after 5PM, I was there and I actually finished the first stage of my journey 🙂

I made it!! 🙂
