Hi everybody
yeah, I know, it’s already two weeks again since I last wrote, despite my resolution to write every week. This time my excuse is that I was sick…like really sick, fever included, just lying in bed shivering of cold and pain. So the last week for me just didn’t happen. Which doesn’t really help with preparations and the “Don’t panic, everything’s going to be alright”-attitude.
But let me tell about the week before the lost week which I wanted to call “Hey, Germany is not as bureaucratic as I thought” enlightenment.
On Monday I spontaneously went to the public order office (=Buergerbuero) and I learnt that I don’t need to have a residence in Germany. Just as if I would leave the country, I can give up my residency when I move out of my flat. On my ID card, it will probably say “unknown” as place of residence which is both, kind of cool and scary 😉 Let’s see how that works out when I can actually do that – which is about one week before I take off.
Of course I need a postal address which is also in my own interest and, as always, my parents are going to be the lucky guardians of all important and unimportant mailings 😀
On Thursday the same week I went to the employment office (=Agentur fuer Arbeit) because I assumed, I would need some kind of employment status which proved to be wrong as well: As long as I don’t want to have any financial support, I don’t have to do anything at all.
Those two insights were really liberating and surprising because I thought, we all have to fit in certain boxes in Germany because everything here needs to have rules and regulations. But apparently there are exceptions….very, very nice 🙂
Beside these formal things, also a lot more informal stuff happenend:
I sold some stuff on ebay but this is just not my thing. I also had more than 10 people looking at my flat but up to now only one send back the application …..this is going all a lot slower than I anticipated….
But of course there was also positive stuff 🙂
My packing bags arrived and I love them:

Yestday, I did a first packing test run, using the packing cubes I had also ordered and it seems that with the packing cubes there is just not enough space. So I decided to send back the packing cubes. I think I will use regular plastic bags to keep my stuff together. They are also way more flexible then the packing cubes. I also ordered an addtitonal bag which goes on the seatpost and can hold additional 16l. It sounds perfect to replace the backpack I’m usually taking when I go cycling, no more sweaty cold backs 🙂
I also bought an additional frameless drinking bottle which I haven’t put on the bike yet and rain protection for my shoes which will probably also work with my regurlar barefoot shoes which would be perfect.
I’ll post a picture as soon as I have all the bike equipment together 🙂
Of course to me it seems there are still a million things to do, to organize and to remember, like quitting contracts, organizing the move (I HATE asking people for help), getting rid of the stuff I don’t need any more. So together with my current cough, I currently have some restless nights, lying awake, coughing and thinking of all the things I have to do as soon as I’m back in shape, Really NOT nice but in the end it will all work out, somehow – it always has 😉
