Green and sunny: From Dahn to Karlsruhe

Hills on the left, hills on the right – and I’m just cycling downhill 🙂

What a beautiful day / ride

I started early, around 8 AM, because it was suppose to get warm again. I started off through the beautiful forest of the Pfaelzer Wald and the whole first ten kilometers were going downhill on a beautiful smooth cycling road.

As always, I was a bit nervous that I have to cycle up one of this hills around me….I suppose I would have been toast if I had to – but I didn’t, lucky me 😉

After about twenty kilometers I was suddenly back in France and it was so beautiful again – and not as hilly as the last time 😉

Almost like in Germany: bans everywhere 😉

Some more cycling in the sun and I was back at the Rhine river and also already close to Karlsruhe.

Back at the Rhine river
Finally arrived in the state where I was born 🙂

With Karlsruhe, I visited the first city in the federal state I was born in: Baden-Wuerttemberg.

It also means that I already completed half of the 16 German federal states. Yippieh-aye-ey….. 😀

Good thing that I’m also doing an excursion to Switzerland, otherwise my cycling would already be halfway done….which would be terrible 😉

In Karlsruhe I arrived just in time for lunch which was good because the temperatures were already around 26°C and it wasn’t getting any cooler.

After a longer search for the tourist information came the next shock about hotel / hostel prices in Karlsruhe: in the end, I paid the same price as for the four-star hotel the day before (60 Euros) and got a single room at the A & O hostel/hotel where the term „hotel“ is quite a stretch. In comparison to German hostels – not even hotels (!!!) – it was far below the average (old and worn and noisy) but at least the room and the bathroom were clean.
