Bavaria can be flat: Nuremberg to Bamberg

I would never have thought that Bavaria can be that flat but today the route was absolutely flat – or going a little downhill….what a great start into my way back to the North 🙂

It was also very impressive how dry the land is after months of heat and drought: trees are losing their leaves, whole fields are dead or dying and I even saw where the dry grassland burnt some days ago. It’s rather shocking – and today, despite the weather forecast, again, no rain came down….ok, I was hit by five to ten droplets but nothing what could be called rain, not even drizzle…
And then there are the lawns on sports fields or in some towns that have been watered daily and emphasize the huge contrast between normal and current state. Sometimes the watered grass areas are even protected by a fence like in Erlangen – of course there might also be another reason for the fence.

Despite that and the moody but still dry and warm weather, there is not much to report today: cycling was easy- usually along big roads or even highways – except for the wind that should bring some cooler weather soon. So I was mostly lost in my own thoughts.

I had lunch in a village restaurant in Eggolsheim which was really, really good. So I might pass on dinner.
This weekend there are festivals and big celebration EVERYWHERE, it seems to be THE summer weekend. That’s why I only got a room a little outside of Bamberg and more or less on the intersection of two federal roads. It also does not look that inviting from the outside but the interior isn’t that bad except for the very warm room temperature.
