14th May: TGI Friday: High Park – and Go Blue Jays Go!!!

Blue Jays vs. Texas Rangers

On Friday I had an important appointment in the Roger’s Centre (which was SkyDome before it was bought by the big communication company): at 7:07 PM the Toronto Blue Jays battled against the Texas Rangers.
But before I went there I decided to enjoy the fantastic weather and visit one of Toronto’s most famous parks: High Park.

Trail in High Park

On first sight I was absolutely stunned: this is heaven for all mountain bikers: a net of single tracks as far as you can see (or not) – but you are not allowed to cycle… Luckily I didn’t have a bike anyway so I just enjoyed the weather, Grenadier Pond and the squirrels all around me and went back in time to get ready for the big game night.

At 6:30 I met with Martina and Pasquale to get the tickets because I was told that the Blue Jays are not any good and that I don’t need to worry about tickets. It didn’t look like it though when you went around the stadium where there were people everywhere in Blue Jay Jerseys, Caps and T-Shirts. But lucky as we are we got tickets close to the home plate with a fantastic view on all plates (on Level 500, the cheapest tickets they have for 11 Dollars – without taxes).
During the first inning I painfully regretted my decision to watch live baseball in Canada: it was windy and cold (I know I should gradually get used to that…) and the game was B-O-R-I-N-G. Most pitches were balls and the highlight was when another player got a walk. I was seriously considering to leave after the first inning.

BUT everything changed in the second inning: the pitchers improved their throws and finally there was some action and the game became better and better and so did the atmosphere. We even did a Mexican Wave 🙂
The result was positive as well (seen from the Torontian way of view 🙂 ).

Jazz band at a bar
– and I forgot both names

After the game we had a bit of a dinner at Subway’s and went to a bar afterwards where a jazz band played. Usually, I’m not excactly into jazz that much but these guys were great.
Of course I neither know the bar’s name nor do I remember the name of the Band. Backpacker’s life: come, enjoy, forget 😉
After that I fell into bed and slept soundly.
