Download GPX track (Traben-Trarbach to Muehlheim an der Mosel)

First of May is a holiday in Germany, the so-called „day of work“, meaning: nobody works and everybody parties and has BBQs 😉

For me it was the day with the longest stint of my trip so far, something around 80 kms.

Unfortunately, my phone wasn’t cooperative and stopped recording the track after about a third of the distance*eye-roll*.

Everything started with a nice breakfast at the hotel Gonzlay and a short conversation with two motorcyclists who also complained about the wind the day before – so indeed: I was not the only one… 😉

I started off in beautiful weather and the wind had also decreased a bit. So I cycled along in a good mood and in no hurry at all and planned to cycles as long as I liked. I also took the time to take a picture now and then, like of the unfinished „Hochmosel“ bridge near Bernkastel-Kues 🙂

Bernkastel-Kues was my first quick stop, just quick enough to take a picture of the castle and of a hatching swan which was behind bars for it’s own safety (so that people wouldn’t stumble upon the nest)

Afterwards, I cycled on and on and having realized that Trier was still about 60 kms away, I decided to cycle as long as my legs were OK and take the boat or bus (there are no train stations around) for the rest of the trip.

The way was most of the time right next to the Mosel but sometimes it lead up in between the vineyards which was sometimes a bit of a workout but also a nice change of scenery.

So, I cycled on and on and when the signs showed only 40 kms and my legs still felt OK, I decided to also cycle the rest of the way.

Around 5 PM I arrived in Trier where I could stay with Dieter, a friend of mine from my studying days, and his girlfriend Anne.

After some cake, Dieter cooked a reeeeeeeeeal nice dinner and after some more talk, I fell into bed around 11:30 PM. The end of a very long and very nice day 🙂
