8 weeks before take off

It’s been a week since my plan for this year „occured“ to me and it seems to actually last this time, I’m in full preparation mode:

I went to the tax office twice last week to find out how to make it legal to earn some extra money with my blog. Currently, it seems to me that I would either need to do this like a real business or just don’t do it at all. Since I want to spend this year with making new experiences and not just start a new job, at this point, I decided against a commercial blog.

Upside for you: no annoying ads – and no nice affiliate links 😉
Upside for me: no book keeping and a lot less pressure to have a lot of traffic on my site 🙂

Besides the paper work, I tried to get rid of some stuff…..up to now, pretty unsuccessfully. Even when I give away things for free, people don’t show up to pick it up….since I still have two months, I’m not stressing too much about that…it’s just annoying. I will probably put most of the stuff to a permanent fleamarket where one can setup their things for a minor fee and they sell it for you. Everything which doesn’t sell will go to charity.

But there is also stuff that did work out 🙂

I bought my first real saddle bags online and I’m looking very much forward to getting them next week 🙂 The big question really was if I should take them from Vaude or Ortlieb. In the end, I decided for the established and time-proven Ortliebs, less because of their reputation to be close to undestructable but more because the Vaude saddlebags have a fixed clasp part which looked to me predestined to break. And yes, I did the bad thing and went into the shop, had all the bags in my hand – and bought online…..bad me!
Thing is that we only have one or two decent shops here to buy high-quality equipment and they charge close to double the price they charge on the internet. Plus, the return policy on the internet is so much better. So yes, sometimes I do that.
But I suppose that most of my cycling clothes, I will buy in the shop.

Another thing that will probably work out is my friend Joachim who is my main supporting pillar for my moving out plans and he will be available and willing end of march to help with moving my furniture to the self-storage….yippiayeah 🙂

I also start slowly to tell people about my plan and get a lot of interested feedback….a lot of people want to follow this blog, although they don’t know yet that it is in English 😉

And last but my highlight of this week was a postcard, I received from my former work colleagues from Switzerland who are the main reason why I write this blog in English, although I’m born and raised in Germany and also going to travel through Germany. YOU ARE THE BEST!!!! And I miss you, too!

And since I really, really love this postcard, I have to post it here:

Steve, I always have to laugh when I read what you’ve written 😀
