Today I started my trip with the two new items I bought in Cologne the day before yesterday: my new rain jacket and my new drinking bottle. And also a new tire which I didn’t photograph 😉

  • Soooooooo nice: From Neuss to Bruehl

    Download GPX track

The ride from Neuss to Bruehl was one of the nicest during my trip so far: the weather was cloudy but almost dry, the cycling paths are in excellent condition and the guiding system here is directly from heaven 🙂 also, the flourishing nature all around me made this a real holiday.

  • Sunny cycling to the Rhine: Essen to Neuss

    Download GPX track

Although I love Essen and everything seemed to go so well, again I got lost shortly after I found the first promising sign pointing to my first destination „Werden“. I even circled back to the sign and tried again but not a chance to find the follow-up sign. So I decided to cycle to Werden according to my phone, again missing one of those „wonderful“ cycle routes.

  • Excursion to the Zeche Zollverein in Essen

Excursion to the Zeche Zollverein in Essen

Today, I visited the Zeche Zollverein in Essen which was a coal mine from the 19th century until 1986. These days, it’s an open air museum and a place for events and exhibitions. And an excellent place to shoot pictures of industrial motives.

  • Doing it my way: From Dortmund to Essen

    Download GPX track

Although it was pretty warm, I slept well and was awake around 6 AM or even earlier. I got up a little later and was on the road around 8 AM which was a good start, keeping the temperatures of yesterday in mind.

But again, as usual in big cities, it took a while before I found the route I wanted to follow today: the Emscher Weg.

  • Oh what a day: from Muenster to Dortmund

Download GPX track (Muenster to Luenen)

The day’s events started again with a cat, this one was named Max.

I was sitting outside on the door mat and putting my shoes on, leaving the door ajar because I wasn’t a 100% certain that I had already brought all my stuff outside to put it on my bike.

And then Max the cat came along. He and his friend Zora are not supposed to be in the house while nobody is at home, so I closed the door a bit, thought for a bit and when Max started to step inside, I closed the door shut. I went to the garage and even before I opened the door, I realized that my drinking bottles were still inside the house….damn….

  • Perfect cycling day: Freckenhorst (Warendorf) to Muenster

Download GPX track (Freckenhorst to Handorf)

Once again, I started in beautiful sunshine. I cycled from Freckenhorst to Warendorf on the 100 Schloesser (=castles)-Route which is about 8k long but sooooooooooo much nicer than cycling along the busy main road.

Spring time has arrived: near Warendorf

  • Tough start but absolutely worth it: Bielefeld to Warendorf

    Download GPX track

After a rather rough start into the day, first some „authority“ issues with the cat during breakfast, then an incredible confusing way out of Bielefeld and an almost real mountain (on top is a restaurant, named „Auf’m Berg“ (=on the mountain) and the road’s name was Bergstrasse (=mountain road)), the hardest part of the day was already over shortly after 9 AM.

And then the beautiful part began.
