23rd May: Day at LaRonde

La Ronde – Rollercoasters from early to sunset

On Sunday despite the weather forecasts the sun was shining brightly from a blue and cloudless sky and it was already about 25°C at 10 o’clock.

Since I was moving to the Montreal Centrale Backpacker I had to pack my stuff again and roll it down the hill, almost to the bus station (in fact the bus station is adjoining the back of the hostel) where I checked in and waited for Monika and finally met her at the bus station.
We took the metro out to the Sainte-Hélène Island and took the shuttle bus to the entrance.

At first we took the BlackMamba equivalent, the Vampire. And I have to admit that this was a bit rough for the beginning, that’s why we continued on the Orbite, a free fall tower, which was even more exciting. For a hundreth of a second I thought I would be dying since you are just shot into the air and fall back again at once, so you are free falling at a height of about 45m and nothing below you but air (and the seat)…incredible….
The next ride (the Boomerang) I let Monika ride on her own since I was a bit sick of the first two and the slice of pizza and the half litre of Coke 😉
But after that short break of about 45 min. I was ready to start all over and we did that on the Monster, the highest wooden rollercoaster in the world. This was just the perfect thing to do: no loopings and just a lot of fun with the right people behind and in front of us (holding their arms into the air and screaming not too loudly 😉 ). This is just a really great rollercoaster!!

After that I was there for more and this was… the Goliath, a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge rollercoaster  – but going only up and down for quite a long time, in quite some metres height and with some steep ups and downs as well. Really exciting on the first ride and gets even better with the next ride (we did it later once more).
The next rollercoaster should be the Ednoer, the newest attraction at La Ronde, seems it was a bit too new. Since it wa not rolling until the end of the day.
Sooooo….we went further to experience some water since it was getting quite hot (ok, it already was quite hot and my shoulders got redder with every minute since my sun sreen was somewhere within my suitcase and not on my shoulders where it should have been).
For the water rollercoaster, La Pitoune, we waited only about half an hour and had a very nice trip on the water; without getting to wet. maybe we should have taken the Splash instead: People who were coming from that direction were really, really, really wet but who cares at felt 28°C or more??? 🙂

After that we did another round of the Monstre, the Goliath and two more rounds on the Vampire thing since it was close to closing time and we could just travel through – in my opinion the best time of the day. Because waiting all day in the sun is not made for me – or the other way round.
But despite the weather (or maybe because of it) and being a Sunday and one of the first weekends the LaRonde Park was openend there were not sooo many people in the park yet. We waited approx. about 30-45 minutes per ride, so I think we got really a lot of fun for our 45$ entrance fee.
