Along the Main: Miltenberg to Steinbach a.Main

After a great breakfast at the hotel Miltenburg, I started into a drizzle – despite the forecast of sunny and hot weather. But I was happy to have a little break from the sun and a cool start.
Quickly, kilometer after kilometer melted away while the sun was working it’s way through the clouds.

Unfortunately, I have to admit: as much as I love cycling along a river (almost flat and beautiful landscape), after some hours I get bored and start to focus on all the stuff which is hurting, annoying,….
So that I end up being exhausted despite the easy ride.

The same happened on Saturday as well, so that I hardly made it to my primary target: Marktheidenfeld

Finally getting there, I stopped at the first beer garden I saw and had a well deserved bratwurst with potato salad.
During the waiting time, a couple sat on my table and soon started to strike up a conversation (where was I coming from, where was I going, where was I planning to stay,…). They were from the area and recommended to cycle to Steinbach since until then there wouldn’t be that many hotels or guest houses – and before I even started to eat, I had a hotel reservation at the hotel Adler (=Eagle) in Steinbach a.Main.

The only disadvantage was: that meant an additional 20k to ride which doesn’t sound a lot. But after 60 k, on a hot day with – let’s say – suboptimal motivation, it sounded like quite a long way to me.
And with this „uplifting“ attitude, of course, it also felt like it. The last 4k, luckily, a cyclist who cycled in front of me at exactly the pace I could handle and basically dragged me into Steinbach to the rather rustic hotel.
„Of course“, the internet there wasn’t working (server down), so that after a relaxing shower, I took a quick walk around the village before I settled in for an early night.
