One week before take off (hopefully 😉 ): moving out of my flat

Storage space is almost full 😉

Hello, hello, hello everybody
today is the first day I don’t have to do anything anymore – and it feels G-O-O-D 😀

On Saturday I moved out of my flat and moved all the stuff I still own into a storage box.
Thanks to Joachim, Nicole, Linne and Sven this was the first move I hardly did anything except for packing up all the stuff which wasn’t packed yet.
After two hours, everything was loaded into the van but I definitely underestimated the unloading into my storage box. Also because the last time I rented a storage space, I had a huge space for only 80 Euros a month.
The storage box now is only 4.5 sqm (with a ceiling height of 3,80m) and only thanks to the guys‘ advanced ability to play grown-up Tetris (thanks, Joachim for the term 😉 ) all my stuff fitted in there.
In the end, the box was filled up right up to the door and I’m a bit afraid of opening the door again in autumn 😉
But for now, I don’t have to take care of packing, selling or giving away stuff 🙂

The two nights until I handed over the keys to the landlady, Sven and I stayed at the Ibis hotel just a few cycling minutes from my flat. It’s only a one star hotel but for sleeping it was absolutely OK and the breakfast was sufficient as well.

On Sunday after breakfast, we cycled back to the flat and did a round of cleaning . Luckily it wasn’t that bad and we are not in Switzerland where the requirements are incredibly strict, so that we were done after 2 hours or so.
Afterwards we had a last fantastic lunch at the Basilico, the new Italian restaurant around the corner which became my new favorite restaurant during the past months, and headed back to the hotel.
Along the way, I discovered a (ice cream) café, the Eisbar 21, where we took a break and some dessert. My two pieces of cake were so delicious that I’m really sad that I only discovered it now that I’m going away….isn’t it always like that?! 😉

After a bit of a rest, we cycled a bit around town since Sven is in need for some „big town“ vibes and spent the evening feasting on a tapas plate and cocktails at the Bar Celona, right next to the Trave river. A really nice final evening in Luebeck.

On Monday at 10AM was the official hand-over of the flat.
Everything went smoothly and one hour later, my bike and bags were everything that was left as my current belongings. I would have liked to post a first picture of me and my stuff immediately but the temperature fell, so that I was just too cold and lazy to make the effort. I will do that as soon as it’s more friendly outside.
After the hand-over, we took the train to Grevesmuehlen where I faced the first test of handling my bike and bags. At the train station in Grevesmuehlen, there is no lift, no escalator, just stairs and a narrow track for bikes. With Sven taking my two saddle bags, it went OK but otherwise it would have been a little adventure to carry the bags and the bike, probably a two-step trip on each side of the underpass.
Having mastered that obstacle, the remaining 12k cycling trip to Kluetz was a piece of cake.

As for today, I more or less just enjoyed having nothing important to do until the weather is a bit more cooperating with my plans. I did some laundry, played with the cat, bought some additional stuff for the bike (like cable fixer, an additional lock for my bags, a multi use strap) and watched some videos on YouTube.
The weather forecast for the next days predicts snow and rain and temperatures below 10°C, so I’m not missing out on a lot by staying here until after Easter.
And I’m absolutely curious if I stick to my plan to start my trip next week 🙂

Home is where the cat is 😉
