29th November: First days at Santa’s village

So, I survived my first two days at the Christmas shop and since I got a list of days when I should work next week, I also assume I’m not fired yet.

Of course, I made my first mistakes.
For instance: I left my work place – repeatedly – because I wanted to help customers. Don’t do that when you are not supposed to!!!!
The good thing is: I like the customers, most of them are really friendly and a lot of them are overwhelmed because we have so much stuff in our shop (when I remember correctly it’s about 300 000 or 500 000 items, who counts 200 000 more or less 😉 ) and I also like a lot of things in the shop, although of course there are also a lot of articles I wouldn’t buy. For example: a pink Christmas tree. But one woman bought one yesterday and a lot of people admired it today…wow…

The only really annoying thing is the music. I think, I heard every christmas song (in German of course) about 20 times (per day). I think when I’m finished with this job I’m forever allergic to traditional christmas songs. I don’t even know how to survive the following four weeks….maybe I should try wearing earplugs 😉

Ah, well and there is this other thing: details and accuracy. I don’t know why I always get jobs where you have to be precise and accurate. It’s really killing me.
The price tags have to be aligned with the corners – and on the wire animals, I was working with, you have to place two price tags exactly against each other. I really hate it, it makes me nervous and impatient.
But it seems I’m the only one ever who is NOT detail-orientated.

What I do like is getting the big picture, reveal relationships between people or things, reading people, getting quickly a good overview, making quick decisions, speedy progress and leave the details to others who like dealing with them.
But does anybody know about a job you don’t need to take care of details? It seems to be part of every job description 🙁 I think even at Subway or in a supermarket I would be in the wrong place.
If anybody has an idea, PLEASE let me know!!!

Until then I try my best to be as accurate as possible without getting a nervous breakdown. And I promise I try not to kill everybody in the shop due to christmas-carol-induced built-up agression! CU in Santa Village 🥳
