…well, so I am in Victoria for more than a week now and ha, it’s snowing since last weekend. Yeah! 🙂
But let’s start at the beginning:
When I arrived here and left the bus station, first thing I did: I got lost…well, that was a regular pattern during the last week: I lost orientation somewhere in town almost daily – I just don’t get the structure of this city – for whatever reason.

But besides that, is Victoria awesome: I’ve been here for not even two weeks but I’ve been to another castle (Craigdarroch castle), I’ve been to the cinema twice: (once even in the famous IMAX theatre)….I’ve finally seen „Inception“ and watched yesterday „Fair Game“, I went to the swimming pool twice (the first time to see if I could fulfill the 200m requirement for the dive course and the second time for my SCUBA experience course on Saturday – very nice indeed, except for my bruised knees and some sore muscles afterwards 🙂 ), I’ve seen the floating homes during a nice long birthday walk together with Lisa from Germany, I even got a birthday song from the band playing at the hostel :-), I was in Chinatown (where they told me, I was over-qualified for the shop help jobs), I’ve been to a Scottish Pub (my very first time), been to the library and even found the city park (Beacon Hill Park) yesterday and the ocean 🙂

And I did a lot of debating if I should really, really start looking for a job now. Because besides the fact, that here is everything I require for an extended stay (swimming pool, park, library and cinemas) + so many small shops, cafes and restaurants, it just doesn’t feel right.
I handed out some résumés to the best hotels here in town (The Empress and The Grand Pacific), to a Thai food restaurant and a movie theatre but my heart wasn’t really in it and I didn’t get any feedback until now – and, to be totally honest, I don’t really expect any. The few spontanious reactions were: „Oh, you’re staying only until April? Sorry, but we’re looking for someone who will be here more permanent“…tsssssssssssss…..April, is almost half a year, meaning an eternity to me 😉
Well, the only sensible thing is moving on and so I’m planning now my further trip to Whistler on Monday next week. At least I know that they are looking for saisonal workers there. So keep your fingers crossed that Whistler finally feels ‚right‘ to me.
P.S.: and with the start of winter, I found a new game to be addicted to (Crime City on Facebook), so, if I don’t respond to e-mails, just send me a weapon or some energy and you have my immediate attention 😉
P.P.S. (19:50): I just spent 230 Dollars on winter clothes (a pink Northface jacket and a pair of long underpants) this afternoon. Now I’m finally having fun at temperatures of -5°C and less, combined with the wind chill…yeah 🙂
