1st June – 11th June 2010: WWOOFing on Wildrose Country Homestead Farm

Annie, the bottle-fed baby goat

Since Tuesday I’m on the Wildrose Country Homestead Farm with lots of goats, chickens, goose, three dogs, lot of cats and two horses.

There are always things to do and the internet connection is poor – should be a 28k modem but the actual speed never extends 26k So I hope there will be following a longer report sometime…

Besides feeding the animals and planting in the garden we are producing soaps, body butters and lip balms here. Which is just fantastic and I still love the smell when I enter the dairy parlour (which should be called the soap kitchen by now 😉 ).

The soap shop

I’m leaving on Friday evening to Ottawa and proceed on Saturday to Montreal and will hopefully still get a ticket for the Formula 1 race on Sunday .

Probably I can get a car ride to Montreal with two guys from Hamilton which I found on the couchsurfing web page….that’ll be fantastic but you’ll never know around here.

The only really annoying thing here is: black flies and mosquitos….over the last week I collected around 50 bites of them and tonight was the first night I didn’t wake up to scratch my bites….jipppiiiiiiiiiiiieh…explanation is: it was raining yesterday and we stayed inside almost the whole day…so: no new bites 🙂

Alright, that’s it for the moment.

Gonna have dinner with Tara, the other WWOOFer from Australia, and after that we will go for our first walk here and I will be probably have some more 50 bites afterwards…

Some pictures from around the farm:
