28th May: Day out of luck

Complexe Desjardin

Since Julia’s foot was still hurting a lot we spend most of the day at the Complexe Desjardin, a big shopping and office centre where also a medical clinic is located.

Thanks to Joshue, the guy from the reception at Montreal Centrale, we got the adress. He had to call 3-4 ambulances until he got Julia finally in.

So, we spent the morning sitting in the waiting area and after seeing a doctor for about 10 minutes we kept waiting in the waiting area for the X-ray. After X-ray everybody was off for lunch, so we went to get some more money for the doctors (altogether Julia paid 260 Dollars for doctor, X-Ray and the medical supplies which will hopefully be refunded by her insurance) and returned to the waiting area.
After the final result (nothing broken but the ligaments were very stressed out) we went down to the drug store to buy all the stuff to make Julia’s foot happy (the crutches, a bandage and Voltaren) and had finally a bite to eat. Then we started the long journey getting home by metro (in the morning we took a cab, I guess otherwise we wouldn’t have made it in one day 😉 ).
When we finally were back at the hostel, Julia was drenched in sweat and was cursing the crutches which were more a torture than a help. But nevertheless, we made it back home!!! And even before sundown… 😉
But I still didn’t have a bed for the night. So I went off to meet a guy from Couchsurfing – who didn’t show up, at least not there or in the clothes I expected him. So I went back and called him. I don’t know why we missed each other but I was too annoyed for another try.

So I called my ‚old‘ hostel Auberge de Jeunesse Maeva just up the hill and surprise, suprise, they seemed to have a bed for me that night.
I packed up some things (I could leave my big suitcase at the Montreal Centrale) and walked up rue St.-Hubert. But when Jorge came out to the reception, he told me that there was a misunderstanding and they would be booked out for the whole weekend.

It was 5:15PM and I still had no bed: I was close to tears and went back to Montreal Centrale where I phoned another guy from Couchsurfing, Arian.
He already had two guys from Germany staying but told me not to worry and that we would arrange something.

So, I went there. It was not the biggest place in the world (two not too big rooms), it was not the tidiest place in the world, it was not the coldest place (I guess, there were about 26° in the living room) but I got somewhere to sleep at last, even if that meant to share a bed.

Arian had an appointment and the other guys had his spare key, so I stayed in the flat, watching a movie (have already forgotten the name) and had a try on Arian’s Rubik’s cube (without much success). Until the two guys, Christoph and Moritz, came back. Then I could get out to get some dinner – some very good fries. And do the rest of my laundry.
We also started to watch another movie (which’s name also slipped from my mind) and when Arian returned we took a quick tour around the block and Christoph and Moritz went out for some club.
Wheras I returned with Arian to his flat and after some chat went to bed.
