11th May: Excursion to Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls: The American Falls (front) and the Horse shoe Falls (back)

On Tuesday I took the obligatory trip to the Niagara Falls with the two other German girls from Clarence Castle (Sindy and Julia), Martina and her boyfriend.

We took the bus at 11:30 and arrived at Niagara-on-the-Falls at around 13:30. We walked the 5kms to the falls and the weather was…well…. Canadian like (rainy, windy) and too cold for the season 😉 After about 30 minutes we saw the big steel bridge (the boarder to the U.S. of A.) and some kind of waterfall behind (as we should later see it was the American Falls). So we kept on walking and took some pictures on the way.

Lots of spray – and some sea gulls

Finally we made it to the big falls, called the Horseshoe Falls and of course we also had to do that famous boat trip on the Lady of the Mist (for only 14,99 CAD, without taxes!!!) which is going directly (almost) into the Falls. I mastered to take some pictures of the American Falls but after that there was only water coming from all sides. So I took my camera into hide – underneath my wonderful fashionable blue rain coat which was provided by the boat company and which was actually allowed to be kept after the journey unlike the tickets…- held my eyes closed most of the time and hold onto my little rain coat because close to the Falls it gets incredibly windy.
Luckily, I also took along my own rain jacket and wore it atop my normal jacket and wore also my incredibly cool boots and therefore stayed relatively dry (I was the only one with dry feet at the end of the boat trip!!!!). But everything that got wet – as did my hands – got icy cold instantly.
I think it is a wonderful experience in the summer when you’re really hot and everything but in these days it is more of a the big adventure and test of courage than a enjoyable or even romantic sort of thing. So at the moment the falls would be one of the most unromantic places for a proposal for me (just if anyone should plan such a thing *lol*).

So after this very wet experience we had to go to Wendy’s to warm up our cold bodies and to give them some calories for them to help themselves 😉 – my little burger was tasty as well :-))))
After lunch we said our goodbyes to Martina and her boyfriend who visited some friends afterwards and took some more pictures of us and the falls. And then returned to the bus station.

Just the regular tourist photo in front of the falls 😉

Returning to Toronto it was also raining so that we didn’t have to adjust to any other climate 😉 Once again we had dinner at the Wayne Gretzky’s and I have to absolutely recommend the Bruschetta: it was a huuuuuuuuuuuuge portion, absolutely delicious and kind of hot as well. The perfect ending of a wet day 🙂
